week11-new term reflection

Bo Lan

At the start of the new term, I began to reflect on the balance between critical thinking about art and computer technology.

The reason for this reflection is that after submitting four pieces of work last term, I was dissatisfied with my work itself - based on the comments of others, but also based on a review and reflection of the work. I found that I was generally satisfied with the concept of the work, but not with the thinking on the themes, the reflection on social issues, or the depth of the research.

The lack of time was a problem, as I was sick for half a month during the holidays, so I had very little time to work on my work. Another reason is that during the last semester the school's curriculum was full of technical teaching, which in my opinion neglected artistic reflection and instruction. But I understand that this is so that we can use the computer as our creative language as soon as possible.

Thankfully, after the first week of history and theory classes. My love for this course has grown in my mind, partly due to the reference to material semiotics. This week's content made me reflect on the relationship between the reception and the emission of signals. This reflection has awakened me to the fact that, as creators of art itself - the senders of signals - the intention and the message we want to convey is crucial. A work without a message is meaningless. This has led me directly to reflect on these questions. I will continue to build up my knowledge of art and design theory over the next few years and translate it into my beliefs about design.

Therefore it is my most important task at the moment to cherish the few history and theory courses I have, and to manage the balance between technical and theoretical courses. I also want to find areas of knowledge that interest me and study them on my own.
