week7-the border between machine and human

Bo Lan

Take the words of the Chinese Lu Xun as an introduction.

Chinese people are always fond of reconciliation and compromise. If you say, for example, that this room is too dark and a window must be opened here, people will certainly not allow it. But if you advocate tearing down the roof, they will come to the table and be willing to open a window. Without more radical ideas, they are always reluctant even to make peaceful changes.

And then to the main topic: the border between machine and human

Recently there has been a growing proliferation of some artificial intelligence stuff, such as AlphaGO, AlphaZero, artificial intelligence recognition and so on. There is so much noise that there seems to be no coherent way out, and it is time to take a moment to think about what it is that we need.

There is no need to elaborate on what artificial intelligence is; the process of feed-forward neural network models based on hidden layers, activation function selection, and finding BP algorithms based on activation functions is a process that many people are already familiar with. And furthermore Tensorflow is something that everyone knows how to do. The current view of many papers is that AI is still weak and can only partially simulate human-like behaviour, such as visual classification, speech recognition, signal recognition, etc. I am optimistic about the future of AI.

I am optimistic about the future of AI, but also somewhat cautious. I am bullish because AI can really change our world, e.g. in the past, we didn't dare to go abroad without knowing English, but now we can travel around the world with a mobile phone translator. And it is cautious because AI will only partially replace humans and never fully replace them. Every single function of the

This can be said in the following ways.

1. Historical experience: unless a matter completely loses its use and is crushed in all aspects before it is replaced by something new, it will become a sunset industry, old but not dead, such as the steel industry which is old but not dead, while SmarTone has withdrawn from the world. When will mankind be overtaken by robots on all fronts and without death? I am afraid that all individuals know that this point in time is far away.

2. The real needs of mankind: all man needs are tools, not new life. If it is simply to build a human with 100% current human functions, we seem to have a much happier and faster way ...... The real human need is tools that can help humans get things done. According to this inference, in the longer term, localized AI will appear frequently, such as reading and writing tools that replace human translation functions, tools that replace human road identification, etc., while 100% human-like creatures, forget about it.

3, the limitations of artificial intelligence: the limitations of artificial intelligence, in fact, is the limitations of human beings themselves. If we look at what humans can do from the perspective of "natural skills" and "acquired skills", excluding the "spirit of everything" and other nonsense, human biology is gifted with The skills are as follows: seeing, hearing, speaking, learning, remembering, feeling temperature, eating and drinking, and moving. Other acquired skills, such as writing, poetry, logic, mathematics and physics, are the result of 100,000 years of civilisation and are not human gifts.

Now that we are taking on the responsibility of God to create artificial intelligence, we run into a problem: what God could not give to humans, we cannot give to artificial intelligence. God has given us the ability to see, hear, speak, learn, remember, take temperature, eat, drink and move. These we can also give to AI, but words, poetry, logic, mathematics and physics are up to this system of life itself. Oh, and to add to that, eating and drinking go away.

So the limitations of said AI are the limitations of humans themselves, which are: seeing, hearing, speaking, learning, remembering, temperature, moving.

And so we know, for a long time, what AI can do: the

See: picture recognition

Listen: voice translation

Speaking: voice translation, automatic article generation

Learning: acquiring knowledge and making judgements that in turn change itself

Memory: basic functions

Temperature: temperature control

Moving: automatic driving

Man uses tools, and there are no limits to the tools that can sew a garment with a primitive bone needle, or weave an intricate pattern with a giant loom, or twist and turn steel like noodles with a million-ton hydraulic press, or build a rocket to send a man out into outer space where no man has ever been before.

These are the tools of mankind, or will be the tools that AI inherits from mankind in the future, but if they want to really develop, let's wait until they have built up a solid family of 100,000 years. The novelist said: the rise of artificial intelligence, kill the human race, locked in a metal cage plugged into the wire as a battery, is pure science fiction.

The atmosphere of artificial intelligence in China, I think Lu Xun said quite well: the intention is only to open a window, people must not allow it, so they have to unanimously declare that they want to tear down the roof, and then they will come to reconcile, willing to open the window.
